A Million Coffees makes Market Square a real High Street

Market Square, the retail, dining and entertainment heart of Varsity Lakes, has served over a million cups of coffee since its inception a decade ago, positioning it as one of the Gold Coast’s caffeine hot spots.

According to Austrian born Chef and café owner Gerhard Breuss from the Lake Café and Bar - one of the precincts original businesses - coffee has been an integral part of the areas’ cultural identity since it was created and is proving a real draw card for locals and visitors alike.
“I would estimate that we’ve alone served over 300,000 coffees during this time, but Market Square has been growing steadily, so I would have to say that per capita for a village precinct we can claim that this is one of our many attributes,” he says.

“Market Square has progressively emerged as a destination of choice to meet and enjoy the perfect cup over a business meeting or with friends, and its casual village atmosphere and numerous cafes makes it unique on the Gold Coast.
“However we also have plenty to offer those not interested in just drinking the world’s most popular bean, as the area is also known for its convenient shopping and award winning dining options.”

The lakefront precinct, likened to the fashionable high streets of England and Europe with its eclectic mix of shopping, restaurants and services, is celebrating its 10-year anniversary beginning in August.
Its popularity has attracted the attention of a number of new eateries in recent years with a stable of more than a dozen restaurants and cafes now calling Market Square home.

Boasting more than 40 retailers, the growing popularity of the area has been proven through a number of recent accolades which include Lake Cafe + Bar and Krish Indian, which have both won industry awards.
Market Square also hosts other well-known establishments such as the newly opened Mecca Restaurant, Crema Espresso, Bliss Make Up and Tanning, the CBD Hotel and a variety of other eateries and specialty stores.

The precinct is also home to banks, a medical centre, chemist, a supermarket, health and beauty establishments, travel agent, homewares, convenience stores and accommodation and conference facilities which all service the local business community, Bond University, Varsity College and the greater Varsity Lakes community.
