The cultural and commercial heart of one of the Coast’s most rapidly expanding communities is celebrating its ten-year anniversary, reflecting on its growth from humble beginnings to establishing itself as a thriving community hub.
Varsity Lake’s own village centre, Market Square, now boasts over 40 restaurants and retailers. Market Square provides a social atmosphere set amongst a contemporary streetscape, delivering a community high street that many cities would envy.
President of the Central Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce and local business owner Nic Rone says locals have watched the area progress from the first building, Delfin House with lake café + bar, through to the addition of SOHO on Varsity Parade and more recently the Piazza, all further expanding the dining and retail options.
“The steady growth of Market Square has really added to Varsity Lakes’ profile, and has provided the heart beat to the local community,” Mr Rone says.
“Since the first café opened in Delfin House, Varsity Lakes has seen the opening of more cafes, a gift store, retail, the Varsity Lakes Tavern, the Chancellor Hotel, all of which make it a true ‘one stop shop’ for locals and the wider community.
“We are now finding Market Square is not only being frequented by locals, but fast becoming a destination for the wider Gold Coast community and day-trippers from further afield who come to enjoy the atmosphere and a range of services on offer.”
One of the most endearing characteristics of Market Square is its village-like atmosphere that captures the essence of the broader, master planned community of Varsity Lakes.
“Many people are turning away from the hustle and bustle of large shopping centres and seeking alternatives that draw on traditional, community values, so Market Square is filling the gap for those wanting a more personable experience,”
