Varsity Under the Stars

Together, a Community celebrates

Music. Fun. Family. Entertainment

The inaugural Varsity Under the Stars

Held on Saturday 5 September 2009 at Central Park, the inaugural Varsity Under the Stars was a huge success with in excess of 2000 people attending for an afternoon and evening of fun, music, entertainment and activities.

Local participation - Varsity College

Varsity College showcased some of their most talented students in the Varsity College Orchestra, Varsity College Choir and Varsity College Band.

Well known kids entertainment - Dora the Explorer

Dora and her friends entertained hundreds of kids as they searched for the Big Red Chicken.  Dora performed two shows and the kids got a real treat when she come out in front of the stage to meet and greet with the audience.

Children's Wonderland

Off stage the kids continued to be entertained with rides, activities, face painting, arts and crafts, a mini merry go round, mechanical surfboard, jumping castle and giant slide.

Up and Coming acts

Local soloist Jac Stone and two piece band, Shoebox got the crowd pumped.  Shoebox even sold out of CD's backstage after their set!

Australiana flavour

Award winning bush band The Leaping Lizards got toes tapping with their unique Australiana rhythm.  While authentic Aboriginal Dance Troupe told their story of Queensland - our people, our places, our stories in an inspiring dance show.

Legend of Australian Music

The star performer of the night was a true legend of the Australian music industry.  Performing for over thirty years with his band Sherbet he had over twenty national Top 40 singles.  He then went solo with fifteen singles in the Australian Top 40 - it was none other than Daryl Braithwaite.

Daryl and his band put on an awesome show, with the crowd singing along to every word.  Reappearing for an encore he kept the crowd rocking until just before 9.00pm.

Lighting up the sky

The night ended with a spectacular fireworks display that lit up Varsity Lakes.
