Work life balance on track at Varsity Lakes

Varsity Lakes has again proven its commitment to healthy communities, joining forces with national sporting company Anderson Events to encourage competitive sport in the workforce as part of their ongoing Sport and Recreation Program.

The Varsity Lakes Sport and Recreation Program continues to exceed expectations with more than 11,000 people currently taking part in a variety of activities including rowing, dragon boating, kayaking and sailing.

Varsity Lakes senior project director Carl Bruhn said it was a positive asset to have Anderson Events on board to help them reach every demographic within the Varsity Lakes community.

“The abundance of facilities at Varsity Lakes, from our parks and lakes to the indoor facilities, offers something for everyone which has resulted in such a great response from the community,” Mr Bruhn said.

“Anderson Events has joined forces with us to help improve the work-life balance of our residents and local employees and encourage corporate team building and healthy lifestyles.

“This will have many benefits for local businesses including casual networking opportunities and greater productivity when the work-life balance is achieved.”

Anderson Events has so far organised a six team netball competition, a six team soccer competition and a ten team touch football competition for Varsity Lakes locals.

Anderson Events operations manager Jason Thatcher said their involvement has already seen a great improvement in the health and wellbeing of Varsity Lakes residents and local employees.

“We have so far involved more than 200 people in the three team sport competitions from local businesses including Ray White, Bendigo Bank and Minter Ellison Lawyers,” Mr Thatcher said.

“This is only expected to gain more momentum as we introduce new and exciting activities in the New Year, including a fun run and a series of boot camps.”

Varsity Lakes boasts an 80 hectare Lake Orr, 56 hectares of open space and 20 kilometers of hike and bike trails.

Currently celebrating its 10th anniversary, Varsity Lakes will comprise 4,500 homes upon projected completion in 2011 and up to 100,000-square metres of commercial space in town centre Varsity Central. It will become home to more than 10,000 residents and more than 6,000 employees.

Varsity Lakes is being developed by Delfin Lend Lease, Australia’s largest developer of master planned communities, with 24 projects nationally.
