A number of Varsity Lakes residents signed up to join the first tango class of the year in March.
Husband and wife class instructors John and Cheryl Lowry said dancing the tango for the past 10 years connected them with many different people and opportunities.
“As with most people who do [this] dance, [we ended] up travelling to Argentina and that‘s led us to establish a charity for foster homes in Argentina,” said Mr Lowry.
Mrs Lowry said the tango is unlike any other dance where you learn a series of moves and steps.
“It is a dance that should come from the heart.
“It just leads you into worlds that you never knew before,” she said likening tango to an addiction, Mrs Lowry also said the benefits of learning the tango were improved balance, posture, timing and of course the friendships formed.
“If you are weary or have troubles, when you dance tango you forget everything else,” she said.
Classes are held 7.30pm every Wednesday night at Varsity College at a price of $15 per person per class.
Anyone interested in classes can contact the Lowrys at john@lowry.com.au or go to www.paralosninos.net for information about their charity.
