Wax for a Cure

The huge turnout at the Waxing Event

The 'Manzillian' - very painful!

Trying to get away!!

By Sophie MacGinley and Kathleen Mooney, Bond University Journalism Students

Five Bond University students donated their bodies for a public waxing display to raise money for the Child Cancer Support Centre last Tuesday at Hotel CBD.

On stage, the males had a variety of areas waxed, arms, legs and other more private areas, all supervised by local business Brazilian Express.

Audience members were able to bid for their chance to remove a wax strip from their chosen male.

The bidding skyrocketed when two males volunteered to have both their eyebrows waxed off.

Grace Mildner attended the event with her friends and said it was such a fun night for such a great cause, would definitely come to next one.

“They were very brave guys you would never see me up there,” she said.

Event organiser Arpana Bothra said the event had raised $1522 and it was great that so many people turned out to support the event.

“It was really good to see the participants getting so involved waxing much more than they had originally set out to.”

Assistant Manager of Hotel CBD Kelly Sangester said it was great to raise money for such a good cause and get the community involved.

Wax for a cure was started by two Bond University students who hoped to raise as much money as possible for kids battling cancer.

Childhood Cancer Support Centre has assisted hundreds of families they provide accommodation emotional and financial support with no cost to the families.

The charity receives no direct government funding and relies on the generosity of the community and fundraising activities to continue providing its diverse range of services and programmes for families.
