The Varsity Lakes to Robina Rail extension has reached the half way mark.
With the project due for completion later this year, there is a general buzz around the Varsity Lakes area about the possibilities the new transport system will bring.
Varsity Lakes Resident Brian Payne said he believed the extension would help residents who work outside of the Gold Coast.
“It will be good for those who work in Brisbane and will come in handy when the footy is on,” he said.
The new rail line will extend 4.1km from the existing Robina station to a new Varsity station village.
Trackstar Alliance were appointed to undertake the as part of the Queensland Government’s $7billion infrastructure plan.
Project Manager Niel Adams said he predicted new jobs and businesses would be created as a result of the $324 million extension.
“This project is a vital link which is providing another 130 jobs in general,” he said.
“It is also part of a whole new transport station development which includes new businesses.
“This [Varsity Lakes] is the only site with the capacity to expand.
“It’ll provide residents with access to the whole rail network.”
