(By Jordan Ashelford and Julia Koenig - Bond University Journalism Students) Varsity Lakes residents have a number of reasons to dress to impress and celebrate this year’s Melbourne Cup Carnival next Tuesday. Hotel CBD, Mecca and Lake Café and Bar are all embracing the spring racing season by each hosting a three-course lunch for the cup. Part owner of Lake Café and Bar Luke Breuss said he was expecting the restaurant to be fully booked and has hired three big screens for people to view the race. “We have only 40 seats remaining and are fully catered for 100 patrons,” Mr Breuss said. “We hosted a similar luncheon last year which was a great success. “I am looking forward to next week as we have put a lot of time and effort into making sure everyone has an enjoyable day.” All restaurants will be offering a three-course menu, live entertainment, big screen TV’s and lucky door prizes. Varsity Lakes resident Felice Hill said the fashion parade at Hotel CBD was enticing although she planned to attend the Lake Café and Bar luncheon. “I have previously been to Lake Café and Bar and the atmosphere was very relaxing beside the lake, so I thought I would attend their cup luncheon,” said Miss Hill. Local resident Dugald McGinness said he was not planning to attend any of the Melbourne Cup lunches but was a regular at Hotel CBD. “The hotel always provides great entertainment and the unlimited beer and wine which is inclusive in the lunch price is certainly a catch for many people,” said Mr McGinness. Bookings are essential and prices range from $45 to $95.
