'Varsity Under the Stars'
 ... Our place, our Voice

Varsity Lakes Community Limited (VLCL) has secured $10,000 in the third and final round of Q150’s Community Funding for a ‘Varsity Lakes Under the Stars’ concert to be held in September this year.

VLCL is a not-for-profit community organisation dedicated to ensuring community prosperity and providing leadership through a range of community events and programs.

VLCL board member, local resident and owner of Varsity Lakes Travel Nicholas Rone said ‘Varsity Under the Stars’ will bring together members of the community to create a memorable Q150 event.

“A key feature of the celebration is the collaboration of all our local Varsity Lakes community organisations in planning and delivering the event,” Mr Rone said.

“We are thrilled to be awarded the much-needed $10,000 to help us put on the best event we can offer.”

“The concept for Varsity Under the Stars was to encourage all Varsity Lakes businesses, school and community groups to work together to promote the strong community lifestyle we have here at Varsity Lakes, while bringing the community together to celebrate Queensland’s 150th birthday.”

“We have recruited Varsity College students to assist with staging design and talent, local businesses will provide sponsorship and services, residents will be on deck to volunteer at the event and VLCL will oversee the whole project from concept to completion.”

‘Varsity Under the Stars’ will be a musical presentation of iconic moments of Queensland and the Gold Coast’s past, present and future featuring popular musical forms such as opera, choir, orchestra and Broadway.

“Our place and our voice will be the overarching theme of the event, which will embody the ideals of the Q150 celebrations by reflecting on our past and imagining our future through a stunning musical presentation,’ Mr Rone said.

The Q150 Community Funding Program gives Queenslanders the opportunity to celebrate and commemorate Queensland’s 150th anniversary.

Q150 community grants were available for activities and projects that reflect the unique culture, heritage and aspirations of our diverse communities.

Varsity Lakes Senior Project Director Carl Bruhn said VLCL demonstrated that the Varsity Under the Stars event would celebrate and commemorate the anniversary in a way which reflects the vision and themes of the Q150 Celebrations.

“The funding grant cements Varsity Lakes’ reputation as one of Australia’s most liveable communities,” Mr Bruhn said.

“The ’Varsity Lakes Under the Stars’ event is set to become a key date on the Varsity Lakes social calendar.

“I encourage all members of the community to participate in the development and delivery of the event while contributing to a state-wide program of diverse, inclusive and innovative Q150 events held across Queensland.”

Upon completion Varsity Lakes will comprise 3,000 homes, more than 343 hectares and up to 100,000sqm of commercial space in town centre Varsity Central. It will become home to 7,800 residents and 4,500 employees.

Varsity Lakes is being developed by Delfin Lend Lease, Australia’s largest developer of masterplanned communities, with more than 25 communities across Australia.
