Varsity Lakes is getting ready in case of swine flu

(By Birgit Kunzli, Bond University Journalism Student)

Despite the number of swine flu cases in the Gold Coast, Varsity Lakes residents said they were not worried about contracting the infection.

A vox pop conducted on the streets of Varsity Lakes revealed many residents were taking precautionary measures to boost their immune system.

Varsity Lakes resident Nigel Petterson said he was not worried about contracting swine flu.  “It is more serious for people that are already unwell or don’t have a good immune system,” he said.

Another Varsity Lake resident Lynne Paterson said she was taking precautions to boost her immune system.  “I am taking high doses of vitamin C, vitamin B and olive leaf extract,“ she said.

Varsity Lake Medical Centre nurse Rebecca said she would recommend to wash the hands as frequently as possible and in the case of possible flu, go directly to the doctor.  “Washing as frequently as possible the hands is the first precaution that we recommend,” Rebecca said.

“And if you have symptoms of flu go to the doctor as soon as possible,” she said.
