Varsity Lakes residents donned their pink and yellow gloves to collect five tonnes of rubbish to the Clean-Up Australia Day effort last Sunday.
The 21 volunteers spent two hours targeting different areas in the community to pick up rubbish.
Delfin sponsored a barbeque to reward the volunteers once they had finished.
Energy Massage and Beauty owner David Webb said he wanted to work alongside the community to help clean-up the area.
“Our work is in the community,” he said.
“So we thought we would get involved.”
Some of the volunteers said they came across some odd items which had been discarded.
Varsity Lakes resident Brian Wellspring said he cleaned up a number of strange items near the Wetlands.
“I found a fridge full of food, a four cylinder engine, a car body, 12 to 15 tyres, a television and a washing machine,” he said.
“ … and [I also found] a small crane that sits on the back of a ute.”
The organisers had a ute to transport the rubbish, however, a truck was needed as volunteers collected more than it could handle.
