After nearly two months of noise, residents are relieved blasting for the new Varsity Lakes railway station will come to an end.
The blasts, intended to break up the hard rock so the railway extension can be built, have been scheduled to finish at the end of September.
Locals have reportedly been shocked with the intensity of the blasts, which could be felt by many in surrounding areas.
Varsity Lakes resident Jodie Johnson said she can’t wait for the blasting to finish.
“It feels like an earthquake,” she said.
“It makes you wonder what it’s doing to your house.”
The blasts have reportedly occurred twice a week, occasionally accompanied by a warning siren.
Communication Coordinator for Trackstar Alliance Jacqui Strambi was unable to comment on the recent explosions, however, indicated the blasting would soon be over.
The current construction is part of a new railway station that will bridge Varsity Lakes to Robina as a new stop on the route.
The new station is said to increase business in the area as well as promote Varsity Lakes as one of the best community locations on the Gold Coast.
The extension projects expected finish date is next year. |
