Varsity Lakes’ residents enjoyed various festivities to celebrate this season’s first State of Origin match last Wednesday night. Many community members said they invited friends and family over for a few drinks to enjoy the game. Varsity Lakes’ resident Seyda Boyaci said she and a group of friends organised a get- together to watch the game. “We just all watched the match and had a few drinks at a friend’s place here in Varsity,” she said. “Despite some of us supporting Blue, and losing, we all enjoyed the night and look forward to round two.” Blues supporter Douglas Raggio said he went between friends’ houses in the area to watch the match. “Some friends and I walked from one house to another to catch both halves [of the game] and along the way heard a lot of cheering coming from neighbouring houses,” he said. Maroon’s supporter Sandy Mcsweeney said she hosted game night at her home in Varsity Lakes. “I had a bunch of my teenage daughter’s friends at my house for the game,” she said. “There was a mix of Blues and Maroons supporters in the crowd and it got a bit rowdy at times but we all had a really good night.”
