Varsity College’s Purpose Built Modern Day Classrooms

By Ross Healy and Rebecca Nilsen, Bond University Journalism students

Varsity College is constructing a purpose built specialty school planned for 2010.

Acting Deputy Principal from Varsity College Jo McDonald said the expansion would be able to hold up to 200 students.

Mrs McDonald said she was particularly interested in the top floor of the building which would be unique and unlike traditional classrooms.

“Hopefully we will have the opportunity to have an open e-learning space [much like] a university-type library,” she said.

Students in the community said they were excited about the extension and that they could access wireless internet from their own laptops.

Varsity College senior student Jess Carnie said she liked the idea of being in an entirely new learning environment.

“I’m liking the idea of wireless internet and my own laptop,” she said.

“I guess that that’s something that will keep me interested in all of my classes. It’s just a new way of learning really.”

The purpose built expansion will be located behind the current senior campus and has an expected completion date of early 2010.
