While romance and roses are in the air as Valentine’s Day looms, local businesses said they were busy getting ready for and promoting the big day.
Lake Cafe and Bar manager Nick Bruess said they started Valentine’s Day promotions early.
"[Early promotions] get people into the swing of things," he said.
The restaurant will offer a special Valentine’s Day menu for guests.
However, it’s not just restaurants getting ready for the day.
Staff at a local florist, Blooms on Varsity, have also been busy preparing as the whole week was a busy period.
Blooms on Varsity owner Carol Hall said she had been planning for Valentine’s Day since Christmas and was expecting to sell 70 dozen roses.
“Valentine’s Day is the busiest day of the year,” she said.
“It’s a day to show a partner or loved one you appreciate them.”
