VLCL GETS A HELPING HAND

Varsity Lakes Community Limited was one of many worthy organisations given a helping hand on 23 September 2010 when Lend Lease hosted its 15th annual Community Day.

Lend Lease Community Day encourages all of its employees around the world to give something back to local communities.  Community Day helps to develop strong community partnerships, giving Lend Lease employees a chance to apply skills where they are most needed.  Employees unanimously agree – this builds strong camaraderie and teamwork, and is an immensely rewarding experience.

Around 15 employees from the Delfin Lend Lease Varsity Lakes office converged on Market Square, on Thursday 23 September to tidy, clean up and remove rubbish around Market Square, Varsity Central, Lake Orr boardwalk and hike and bike trails, Central Park, North Shore Bike Education Park, North Shore Lakeside Park and South Bay.

Katrina Wheatley team leader of the group said Varsity Lakes Community Limited was chosen because the not for profit organisation is becoming widely recognised for their quality governance and leadership within the community, however volunteer numbers can sometimes prevent them from doing activities like this.

“Varsity Lakes Community Limited is a significant driver in maintaining the quality of community that has been created at Varsity Lakes.  It is involved in all aspects of the community from events such as Carols, school holiday programs, youth development initiatives and general community issues.  However, volunteer numbers can sometimes be difficult to maintain particularly on less ‘desirable’ projects such clean ups.  We saw this as our opportunity to step in with some manpower and help out.” said Katrina.
