Carol Hall and Nathalie Bernon holding an Oriental Lily arrangement. |
By Karissa Straughen, Bond University Journalism Student A Varsity Lakes florist encourages their staff to focus on what they find inspirational when creating their floral designs, rather than following a standard template. Manager and Owner Carol Hall of Blooms on Varsity said their arrangements where individual and based on what inspires each staff member. “We don’t follow the trends we use our own inspiration to create florist designs,” she said. Blooms on Varsity can create something to suit all occasions, from births to corporate functions which can be picked up or delivered. The store opened five years ago and Ms Hall said they had watched the Varsity Lakes grow. “I remember when [Varsity Lakes] use to be pine trees,” said Ms Hall. Assistant Manager Nathalie Bernon said after working in hospitality and seeing many floral arrangements, she was motivated to make a career change into floristry. “Ten years ago I worked at the Marriott Hotel and they did a lot of functions involving floral arrangements which developed my passion for floristry,” she said. Their most popular bloom is the Oriental Lilly but on Valentine’s Day roses were the most sought after.
