Irritated residents of Varsity Lakes are finding it difficult to find rental properties to accommodate them and their pets.

Varsity Lakes resident Daniel Barling said finding a property in Varsity Lakes and surrounding suburbs was a challenging task.

"My girlfriend and I have been looking for three weeks now," he said.

"And it's near impossible to find a home that will allow our 15 week old Blue Heeler puppy.

"When you're a young couple it's unrealistic to pay $415.00 per week just so you can keep your pet.

"And there's no way we can afford to buy a property to keep our pet."

Varsity Lakes rental properties being advertised online offer a total of six properties which allow any type of pet out of 475 with a price per week exceeding $500.

The rest of the 475 properties either allow a cat or a dog up to 4kg.

Pet Crazy's store manager Belinda said most home owners did not want pets in their homes for two major reasons. (Listen to her comments on the audio file)

Varsity Lakes residents who are unable to afford this expensive lifestyle are now faced with the difficult decision of either giving their pets away, or leaving the suburb to find a new home.
