Local children were given the opportunity to make their own kites at a kite making expo held at Central Park on January 21.
Children who attended the expo were given all the materials needed and instructions to make their own kites, which they could take home.
Expo supervisor Ashleigh Hartwig said the program encouraged children to be active.
“These programs are just to encourage the kids to get out, make new friends and just to get away from the TV and be active, healthy and have fun,” she said.
The windy conditions proved difficult for the actual kite making, but were ideal once the children’s creations were ready to fly.
Local grandmother Kay Fellinga said the expo kept the children entertained over the holiday period.
“We came down here to pick up my granddaughters from a fashion expo and another group of children were making kites,” Mrs Fellinga said.
“My grandchildren were really taken with the idea of making their own kites.”
