For the second time this year Varsity Lakes residents were given the chance to put their best arm forward and donate blood to the Red Cross.
Robina Red Cross director of marketing Zoe Bargh said Varity Lakes was a good area to target because of the growing business and residential population.
“We’ve got plenty of residents that are already onboard donating,” she said.
“However, there is still a high demand in the area, so we are just trying to accommodate the needs of the population.”
Miss Bargh said that many people struggle to find time to donate blood, but having the Red Cross van at Hope Church in Varsity Lakes would make it easier for people to donate.
“Donating blood has never been easier,” she said.
“We need as many people as we can get.”
Miss Bargh said it was hoped people would become regular donators as you can donate every three months.
“It’s a nice community thing to do, as you could potentially be saving the lives of three other people.”
Varsity Lakes florist Nathalie White said she had been compelled to donate after her friend had been diagnosed with leukaemia and needed regular blood transfusions.
Miss White said donating blood had always been on her mind, however Miss White said for more donations to be made in the community, a different campaign strategy was needed.
“People are in a rush these days and rarely see posters or television advertising,” she said.
“But because [Red Cross] came to me, that made me want to donate.”
Miss Bargh said that the Red Cross will be back to Varsity Lakes in December and that it would be good to see many regulars return.
