Local residents hit the streets of Brisbane to raise money for research into infectious diseases and cancers last Sunday
The annual Brisbane City Romp is similar to the Amazing Race, but participants wear costumes.
Participants ran all over Brisbane to various checkpoints solving clues and gaining points for their team.
At the end of the six hour charity event a concert was held where $100,000 worth of prizes were given out for the most original costumes, the top five fund raisers, and the teams with the top three highest point scores.
Teams from all over Queensland came to participate; even one from Robina.
Varsity Lakes residents Elise Branch, Sophie Bannar-Martin, Jody Stapleton and Jessica Danquah who called their team the “Radical Rompers” said the event was very well organised and well worth the trip into Brisbane.
“It’s nice to spend some time in the city, especially when it’s raising money for such a good cause,” said Miss Branch.
“The Romp is for everyone to enjoy. Hopefully next year we can bring more teams from Varsity Lakes.”
With donations still pouring in, the Burnet Institute hopes to reach this year’s target of $250,000 in order to fund their continued research of infectious diseases and cancers.
