A partnership between Gold Coast United and Gold Coast Surf Lifesavers (GCSL) raised $26,000 for beach safety awareness at Skilled Park on February 6.
According to the scoreboard around $22,000 was donated by match attendees before the game and $1 from every ticket sold raised the total to $26,000.
United supporter Andrew Curtis said he felt good giving back to those who kept the beaches safe.
“It’s great to help out the community through football,” he said.
“And I’m astounded that 4,000 people raised so much money.”
Local teen lifesaver Kirsty Man said she couldn’t believe how much was raised on the day.
“It’s like a dream come true,” she said.
“I can’t believe how much extra support we received.”
The money raised is to be used to raise beach safety awareness.
