Japanese restaurant, Teriyaki Mate has opened in Varsity and hope their teppanyaki method of cooking would entice locals into the new eatery.
The Teppanyaki cooking method involves cooking food on an iron hot plate and juggling flavours.
Manager Liza Lim-It said the restaurant opened on 22 December and was a fun dining experience.
“Besides the authentic Japanese taste and excellent service it has a friendly environment... [people] feel very comfortable and can enjoy [the restaurant] beyond the quality of food and good service,” she said.
“Teppanyaki is sautéing [the food], in a hot pan plate with the special teriyaki sauce and steak sauce, combined together with the heat and the teppanyaki style of juggling all the flavours."
Lim-It said Varsity Lakes rapid development made it the perfect location for the restaurant to be open.
“Varsity Lakes is a very potential place.... it’s popping like a mushroom,” she said.
Satisfied customer Andrew MacAlpine spoke highly of the restaurant, revealing it was the second time he had dined there.
“The first time was brilliant; I’d say it has the best service in Bond Market Square... they bring out hot towels,” he said.
“The ingredients are fresh and high quality and they make the sushi right after you order.”
