The financial crisis has hit a number of professions these past years, but the tattoo business still hasn’t felt the blow.
True Tattoo employee Jake Gardner said that the shop on Varsity Parade had a stable clientele.
“We have between three and five customers a day, depending on bookings or walk-ins,” he said.
“Most of the customers are regular and come from all walks of life.” Getting a tattoo inked costs $150 for an hour of body art.
Customers are welcome to bring in designs or leave it to the artist.
“Most popular tattoos are riding and a lot of colour-work,” says Jake.
Customer Jane Rowland said she was a first-time visitor to True Tattoo but having a second tattoo done.
“It’s kind of a mid-life crisis,” she said.
“I want to tattoo my children’s name on the back of my shoulder.
“It’s the start of a new life for me.”
