VARSITY Lakes residents are contributing to increased water use across South East Queensland.

Queensland Water Commission statistics released on Friday show the Gold Coast has relatively excessive water use compared to other regions.

Varsity Lakes resident Michael D’Ambrosia said locals needed to work together to reduce water consumption.

“If Varsity as a community all do little things to help save water, hopefully other suburbs can follow,” he said.

Varsity Lakes resident Holly-Kate Roberts said she was already helping save water by making sure she always turned taps off and kept to three-minute showers.

Little things she learnt from her mother helped her save water, she said.

“It’s only small, but I want to contribute to solving this problem, not causing it,” she said.
