Four local dancers from Ikin Dance have participated in the popular TV show So You Think You Can Dance since it began two years ago.

Garrett ‘Gaz’ Griffiths, a professional dancer, was eliminated from the top 18 competitors two weeks ago.

Gaz said when he entered the competition five weeks ago he never thought he would make it to the top 20.

“I didn’t think I was going to even make it in front of the judges,” he said.

Gaz was one out of four b-boy dancers to make it into the top 40.

Anthony Ikin, a contestant on the show in 2008, started Ikin Dance Studio eight years ago in Varsity Lakes and then opened a studio in Sydney.

The studio's marketing manager Megan McInally said the studio offered a full time course for professional dancers.

“Without the help of this course, Gaz would not have made it as far in the show,” she said.

Gaz said he joined the full time course for the competition because he knew b-boying would only take him so far.

Ms McInally said the Ikin course helped dancers establish commercial contacts, potentially leading them to jobs.

Gaz said he was planning to move to Sydney to participate in more dance workshops and hoped to perform in future dance competitions.

The full time course runs five days a week from 8.30am to 3.30pm and other casual classes are also available.
