Student Athlete Moves to Varsity Lakes

(By Rosemary Timmins and Julian Jantos, Bond University Journalism Students)

A nationally ranked swimmer has moved to Varsity lakes to undertake a sports science degree at Bond University.

Ms Kaitlin Faulkner said she started swimming at three years old and has competed in five national age championships and set a number of Australian records.

At age eight, Ms Faulkner said she began to compete and by age 13 she was selected for national competitions.  A close friend of the swimmer, Jessica Marble said Ms Faulkner was a dedicated athlete.
“I have so much respect for Kaitlin,” Ms Marble said.
“She has accomplished so much and is so modest about all of it.”

Miss Faulkner said she was considering whether or not to continue swimming, as it had begun to interfere with her studies.
“For me to go any further than where I am now, I kind of need to dedicate everything to it,” Miss Faulkner said.
“At this point I’m just having a bit of a break from competitive swimming and seeing whether I have the passion to do it.”

Ms Faulkner plans to keep up with her training, swimming a few times a week.
