Varsity Lakes residents have questioned the ability of Gold Coast teams in the national sporting arena following a string of high profile losses.
AFL newcomers the Suns suffered their tenth loss of the season to Western Bulldogs at their new Metricon Stadium while the Titans remain on the bottom of the ladder after their loss to Cronulla Sharks at Skilled Park.
Varsity Lakes resident Mark Oakley said he’s disillusioned by Gold Coast sports teams’ inability to string together a succession of wins.
“I’m tired of seeing either the Suns or the Titans lose week in, week out, especially at home games,” he said.
“I want to support a winning team but I don’t want to look outside the Gold Coast to do so.”
Varsity Lakes resident Joel Munro said he has faith in both the Suns and the Titans to pick up their game.
“It’s only the Suns’ first season and they’re already showing signs of improvement,” he said.
“The margins of their defeats have shrunk lately and I hope that they’ll be able to get that first win at the Metricon soon.
“As for the Titans, despite being dead last in the NRL ladder, I hope they can bounce from this next season.”
The Suns and the Titans will travel for their upcoming games, with the AFL team taking on Fremantle on July 2, 2011 and the NRL team locking horns with the New Zealand Warriors on July 8, 2011.
