Soccer Mania
By Jessica Maher, Bond Journalism Student
During school holidays the Bond Institute of Sport held a Soccer Camp for children aged 6-16.
Approximately 60 children participated in the week long camp aimed to improve their skills.
The week consisted of basic drills to improve skills like dribbling, passing and shooting and several tournament-style competitions as well as private coaching with Ex-Socceroos and other international players, fitness coaching and working together as a team.
President of Bond Soccer Troy Bingham said the program was all about the kids realising their true potential.
“An added benefit is that they will be working with renowned coaches in a friendly atmosphere, where there is an emphasis on team-work,” he said.
Eight year old Alex Page wants to be a professional soccer player when he grows up.
“I play soccer most of the time and I want to be a soccer player,” he said.
“We played [at the Bond Soccer Camp] a soccer game called doctor and passing the ball,” he said.
The week long camp cost $275 and included daily lunch, equipment and a water bottle
This is the first program of its type to run on the Gold Coast and the Bond Soccer School plans on running several more camps throughout the year.
