Budding new film makers have been busy shooting their short film titled ‘The Lift’ in Varsity Lakes over the last two weeks.

The project is being filmed at a Varsity apartment and other areas in Varsity Lakes.

The film follows the story of a young boy who saves his father from a hitman.

Film crew member Shane O’Keeffe has been working on the project.

“Some people were a bit suspicious as they saw an apartment with windows and doors covered in black plastic,” he said.

“This was due to the fact we had to shoot in the day but make it look like night time.

“One car drove past and asked what channel we were from.”

Production designer Jessica Colwell has been busy converting the location to a replica of an old hotel.

"I have sewed curtains out of fabric from the op shop and bought old furniture," she said.

“It has been a fun experience and I’m looking forward to seeing the finished product."

The crew will wrap up filming this week.
