ISC Safe Communities Accreditation

In an effort to further enhance the Varsity Lakes community including the businesses, schools, community groups and organisations, Delfin Lend Lease has commenced the process of gathering information to submit applications for the accreditation of its development communities across Australia as International Safe Communities (ISC).
 
International Safe Communities is a World Health Organisation (WHO) concept that recognizes safety as “a universal concern and a responsibility for all". This approach to community safety encourages greater cooperation and collaboration between non-government organisations, the business sector, local and government agencies.  In order to be designated as an ISC, communities are required to meet six criteria developed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) Collaborating Centre on Community Safety at the Karolinska Institute for Social Medicine in Stockholm Sweden (http://www.phs.ki.se/csp/index_en.htm). The ISC accreditation process provides, not only support for communities, but an indication of a level of achievement within the field of community safety.

• Transport Safety Programs
• Home safety
• Work safety
• Sports safety
• Safety in public places
• Safety for children
• Safety for elderly
• Crime and Violence prevention
• Suicide prevention
• Injury surveillance
• Occupational Safety Programs
• General – any programs that have a safety promotion and injury prevention focus and do not fit easily into previous categories
