Varsity Lakes Community Limited (VLCL) has secured a 3 year grant from QLD Governments Local Sport and Recreations Jobs Plan program to fund a co-ordinator’s position.
The Honourable Phil Reeves, Minister for Child Safety and Minister for Sport made the announcement on 7 September to VLCL, one of just three Gold Coast recipient groups and 20 State wide.
VLCL partnered with Gold Coast Dragons, GC Master Rowers, Gold Coast Recreation and Sport, SAILS and Nerang Canoe Club to submit the application. Each of these clubs utilise Varsity Lakes beautiful Lake Orr as their training venue and regularly host regattas, ‘come and try’s’ and fundraising events.
The Jobs Plan funding program provides a contribution of up to $52,000 per annum for a maximum of three years to build capacity of organisations through the employment of a Local Sport and Recreation Coordinator. The co-ordinator’s role will provide cohesion between the clubs by assisting with governance, developing networks and supporting collaborative approaches, assist with further grant applications and sponsorship partnerships and provide marketing and promotional activities for the collective group.
VLCL is a not-for-profit organisation established by Delfin Lend Lease to provide leadership and foster ongoing community interaction and involvement in Varsity Lakes. VLCL continues to fulfil the commitments established by Delfin in promoting social, business, environmental, economic and physical wellbeing programs and initiatives for the local community.
Since it formed in September 2006, VLCL has received over $200,000 in funding from State Government and corporate organisations.
