Varsity residents are annoyed after potholes have begun to re-appear after only being repaired a few months earlier by the Gold Coast City Council (GCCC).
Surfacing in the main streets in Varsity, including Cottesloe Drive have caused residents to dodge them while driving causing dangerous driving risks.
Varsity Lakes resident Lisa Frangiosa said it is only causing more annoyance to people who live in the local area.
“It’s frustrating when you travel down the roads where you live several times a day only to watch out for random holes in the roads,” she said
“It’s dangerous and they’re getting bigger.”
Miss Frangiosa also said the one along University Drive is not very deep but it is very wide, making it difficult to avoid.
Varsity Lakes resident Kaitlyn Bower also said it was not necessarily about the annoyance of them, but the potential damage they can have.
“Depending on how bad the pothole is, can result in serious harm to your car or yourself if it is bad enough,” she said
“No one wants to pay for the damage done to their car for something the Council should be in charge of.”
Despite the Council’s efforts of addressing the problem only in January this year, the state of the roads are quickly returning to their damaged state.
When asked about the state of the roads and addressing the problem, the Council said it has to be made as a formal complaint first.
While Council is responsible for the maintenance of local roads within its area, Council is entitled to rely upon legal immunity under the Civil Liability Act 2002.
A request to fix the damage has been made, hopefully lasting a longer duration this time round.
