Varsity lakes residents and businesses are frustrated that, despite the demand, a fully equipped Post office had not yet been opened in the area. Owner and Managing Director of Varsity Lakes Travel Nicholas Rone said not having a Post Office in Varsity Lakes meant people had to travel to either Bond University or Robina town centre. “It takes extra time for us to connect with outside areas because there is no post office,” he said. “We have to drive out of the area to post and receive mail; it makes us unable to function properly.” Varsity Lakes resident Miss Courtney Bunnel said travelling to Bond University to access their Post Office facilities was inconvenient. “You go to the Post Office and you have to walk through a University to get there,“ she said. “Plus, the post office does not even provide all services.” Additionally, Manager of the Bendigo Bank in Varsity Lakes Steve Foster said not having a Post Office in the area affected business growth. “A Post Office would attract more people to Varsity lakes, resulting in higher foot traffic and business growth,” he said. Businesses and citizens of Varsity lakes have banded together and written letter of support to the Head of Australian Post, hoping a branch would be opened in the area. Mr Rone said for the letters to be effective Varsity lakes residents and business owners supporting this idea should also too write to the Head office of the Australian Post. “The only way we’ll get anything out of this is if we all pull together with the same message to be consistent,” he said.
