Central Park Oval was overtaken by approximately 15,000 people and their pets attending the annual Gold Coast Pet and Animal Expo last weekend.
Organised by Gold Coast City Council Division 11 Councillor Jan Grew, the event has been running for the past six years.
A major drawcard of the event were celebrities Dr Harry and Ranger Stacey who hosted special segments of the program and dispensed expert advice for attendees’ furry friends.
The event attracted a variety of attendees with young and old people, families and singles alike.
“It is a chance for the whole family to come along with their pet,” said Mrs Grew.
John Cambridge and his family said they had attended the event last year with their dog Jazz and found it highly enjoyable.
Events at the Expo included K9 Disc State Championships, pig races, dog fashion parades, dog agility classes, puppy training lectures.
The Gold Coast City Council's Animal Management staff were also on hand to advise on animal behaviour issues.
Funded by the Gold Coast City Council each year, the Expo aims to educate the community on appropriate animal care.
Mrs Grew said the purpose of staging the event was, “To give families a fun weekend out but also with the underlying message of responsible pet ownership.” |
