A recent vox pop revealed 27 of 30 local residents travelled regularly, most making international trips bi-annually, but they would like to travel more.

However most residents said they could not travel as much as they wanted because of lack of time and money.

Varsity Lakes resident Jessie Jones said she had not travelled yet but would like to after finishing her studies at Harvest Bible College.

“I would like to travel in the future once I have the money,” she said.

“I haven’t had the chance to work between finishing school and studying so that’s really stopped me from travelling so far.”

Varsity Lakes Travel owner Nicholas Rone said he had noticed travel revenue had increased significantly in 2010, compared with the downturn experienced throughout 2009.

“I would suggest that people are far more secure about their financial positions,” he said.

“We’ve certainly seen a trend upwards [in 2010], which is nice it’s been downwards for a while.”

Investblue client manager Cathy Gore said saving for a holiday could be difficult, but monitoring where funds went with a budget was a good start.

“It is important for people to organise and have a budget because it does show them what they are spending,” she said.

“That way they can try and assess where their funds are going.”
