(By Andra Nasrie and Pascal Trueb - Bond University journalism students) A second Chinese restaurant opened at Market Square last Friday. Happy Meal Chinese Restaurant’s chef Benny Hung said the new restaurant offered mainly Chinese meals but also had Thai and Malaysian dishes. Mr Hung said he saw potential in opening his restaurant in Varsity Lakes because of residential and commercial developments. “We focus on the budget of students,” he said. “Since we are a new business, we have to offer low prices to stay competitive.” Another Chinese restaurant, Varsity Lakes Chinese Restaurant, is located 50 metres away from Happy Meal at Market Square. Varsity Lakes Chinese Restaurant owner Henry Cheung said his restaurant catered to a broader range of customers. “We have workers at Varsity Lakes coming in for lunch and residents coming in for dinner,” he said. Mr Cheung said the mid-range prices at Varsity Lakes Chinese Restaurant were affordable and value for money. Varsity Lakes Chinese Restaurant opened five years ago. “We were the first Chinese restaurant in Market Square,” Mr Cheung said. Mr Cheung also said he was not worried about other Chinese restaurants opening in the area. “We will always try to provide the best quality food and service as possible,” he said. Happy Meal Chinese Restaurant is located at 240 Varsity parade and Varsity Lakes Chinese Restaurant is located at 201 Varsity parade.
