For those who couldn’t make it to the Flemington Racecourse last Tuesday, The Lake Cafe & Bar brought racing fever to Varsity Lakes.
The Lake’s Melbourne Cup Luncheon was a winner for the for the fifth year running.
The award winning restaurant, owned by chef of 49 years Gerhard Breuss and his family, hosted 100 festively dressed guests.
Mr Breuss said despite all the work that went into organising the event, he enjoys the annual Melbourne Cup.
“I do find them fun,” Mr Breuss said.
“There is a good atmosphere and everyone is in high spirits as they want their horse to win.”
The Lake entertained their guests with live music, screens showing the horse races throughout and prizes for the best dressed male and female.
Event attendee Penelope Brown enjoyed her day, even though she didn’t win any money on the races.
“I’m not a winner,” Mrs Brown said.
“But definitely a grinner.”
Mr Breuss said preparation for the event and menu started weeks before as they needed to choose the most appropriate food.
“We have to choose food that is palatable for almost everyone,” Mr Breuss said.
“We also have to consider what sounds attractive on the menu.”
Guests had the choice of prosciutto wrapped chicken breast or pan seared Atlantic salmon for their main as well as an entree, dessert and a glass of sparkling or juice. |
