Match made in gadget heaven

gadget

By Remi Quinlivan, Bond University journalism student

If you thought Warwick Capper and his short shots were a match made in heaven, think again.

There is a new union in town that combines an Aussie’s two great loves: beer and the iPhone.

Varsity-based company Dot 1 International has imported the iBottleopener to Australia for every true blue Aussie who wants their iPhone case to be the talk of the BBQ.

Dot 1 International founders Tom White and Sean O’Doherty, who love their iPhones just as much as cracking open a cold one, are the exclusive Australian distributors of the product.

“The idea of having a bottle opener wherever you are and not as a separate device in your pocket is something super functional we thought people would buy,” Mr White said.

“And given the beer consumption in Australia it was a no-brainer!”

In 2007 an estimated 9.88 litres of alcohol were consumed per capita.

The duo, who have been friends since they were 11 years old, are now on the look-out for anything that is innovative and will succeed in Australia and New Zealand.

Mr O’Doherty said he and Mr White were ambitious and hoped their company would grow in leaps and bounds.

“In five years we want to be one of the largest electronics accessory suppliers in Australia and New Zealand,” Mr O’Doherty said.

The iBottleopner can be bought online starting at $29.95 and iPhone fanatic Tyson Pillion can hardly wait to get his hands on one.

“I think the lads and I will have a lot of beer-filled fun with this gadget,” said Tyson.

The iBottleopener will hit servos and convenience stores just in time for Christmas.
