MYER CAROLS AT VARSITY TO RAISE MONEY FOR CHILDREN’S CHARITY

An upcoming carols at Varsity Lakes won’t just be a great opportunity to enjoy an evening of free entertainment – the event will also raise funds for the Hear and Say Centre.

The 2010 Myer Christmas Carols to be held this Sunday at Varsity’s Central Park Oval will see performances from Popera Classic Collections, Cory Hargreaves, Hope Church Choir, and the Ikin Dance performers.

Added to this will be plenty of food and drink, rides, activities, fireworks spectacular and an appearance from none other than Santa Claus himself.

Money will be raised for the Hear and Say Centre at this year’s carols through donations and the sale or glow sticks.

The Hear and Say Centre is one of the leading foundations for paediatric auditory-verbal assistance, helping to provide cochlear implants for children who are deaf or hearing impaired.

Nic Rone, chairman of Varsity Lakes Community Limited says the event has had overwhelming support.

“Previous years’ carols have been really well attended and we’re looking forward to a similarly great turnout this year,” Mr Rone says.

“In particular, we believe the sponsorship from Myer will add a new level to what’s already become an intrinsic part of our area’s festive celebrations.

“This is going to be a fantastic community event that raises money for a genuinely worthwhile charity that does a lot of really important work with hearing-impaired children.  “We’re looking forward to our best Christmas carols service yet.”

Myer Robina Store Manager, Scott Adams says both he and his team are thrilled to be presenting for the first year the Myer Christmas Carols at Varsity Lakes.

"We have had such a positive and overwhelming response to our new store from the local community and we really wanted to say thanks for the continued support, so we saw the Myer Carols as the perfect way to express our gratitude,” Mr Adams says.

“As a new business within this close community, I know my staff and I are looking forward to participating on Sunday and celebrating Christmas with friends and family and we encourage everyone to join us.”

VLCL was established to provide leadership and foster ongoing community interaction and involvement in Varsity Lakes, and will continue the commitments established by Varsity Lakes developer Delfin Lend Lease by promoting social, business, environmental, economic and physical wellbeing programs and initiatives for the local community.

The VLCL community group model is seen as a first in the transition between a master planned community developer and the community once it finalises its development commitment.

Festivities at the Myer Christmas Carols will commence at 5PM on Sunday 5 December, and will run through until 8PM.
