MYER BECOMES NAMING RIGHTS SPONSOR OF THIS YEAR’S VARSITY CAROLS

Australia’s biggest department store chain, Myer, will be the naming rights sponsor for this year’s Christmas Carols at Varsity Lakes.

The 2010 Myer Christmas Carols at Varsity Lakes will be held on Sunday 5 December at Central Park in Varsity Lakes, and will see a variety of performers entertaining the crowd, as well as fireworks and attractions for children including Santa.

Myer Christmas Carols at Varsity Lakes is being organised by Varsity Lakes Community Limited (VLCL) and Hope Church.

VLCL is a not-for-profit organisation made up of local residents and business people that are committed to continuing the suburb’s established strong sense of community.

Nic Rone, chairman of Varsity Lakes Community Limited, says that having a sponsor like Myer on board will provide a significant boost to the event.

“It’s a massive coup for us, and we’re delighted to have the support of an Australian business as major and well-loved as Myer,” Mr Rone says.

“Myer are a company that truly gets into the Christmas spirit, and we see their support of our Carol’s as a genuine extension of this.
“I believe that the partnership between a significant corporate entity such as Myer, and VLCL and Hope Church will result in a high-quality event for the Coast.”

A new Myer store is due to open at Robina Town Centre in late October, and its manager, Scott Adams, says that the Carols will be an excellent opportunity for the new business to interact with the residents from the greater area.

"Myer has a proud tradition of supporting local community events and as a new store, our team is looking forward to presenting this year’s Myer Christmas Carols at Varsity Lakes and getting the opportunity to meet some of our new customers and their families and friends," Mr Adams says.

Nic Rone says that, with the assistance of the new sponsor, this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever.

“Previous years have been fantastic, and our aim this year is to build on this momentum to deliver a thoroughly enjoyable family event to the community,” Mr Rone says.

“Last year saw 4,000 locals descend upon Central Park to enjoy an evening of festive entertainment and raised nearly $3,000 for the Hear and Say Centre.

“We’d love to raise even more money for this truly worthy charity this year.”

The Hear and Say Centre is one of the leading foundations for paediatric auditory-verbal assistance, helping to provide cochlear implants for children who are deaf or hearing impaired.

They will be the beneficiary of fundraising at this year’s Carols, with money being raised through donations and the purchase of glow sticks.

VLCL was established to provide leadership and foster ongoing community interaction and involvement in Varsity Lakes, and will continue the commitments established by Varsity Lakes developer Delfin Lend Lease by promoting social, business, environmental, economic and physical wellbeing programs and initiatives for the local community.

The VLCL community group model is seen as a first in the transition between a master planned community developer and the community once it finalises its development commitment.
