Varsity Lakes residents are positive about the new aged care facility due to open in February 2009. The Domain Aged Care project named ‘Varsity Rise’, will offer a variety of facilities for high care and low care patients as well as a dementia ward.
Varsity Lakes is a popular suburb and attracts many young families, students and renters. Executive Director of Domain Bill Summers said he saw something special in the Varsity Lakes area and was drawn to the fact that it was full of young active people. Mr Summers said the idea of introducing residential aged care to a younger community would help the new members of community keep an active lifestyle. “We want older people to be with the community, we don’t want them to be divorced from the community,” he said. “Varsity Lakes is magic; it’s where the action is.” Mr Summers said he expected the majority of residents would come from other states and would move from their family homes to live in Varsity Rise. “They will be coming from beyond Varsity Lakes, from a traditional home,” said Mr Summers. Bond University Student Hemma Kearney said she thought the idea of a residential aged care facility in the area would add diversity to the growing community. “I think it will be good for business growth and bringing more people into the area,” said Miss Kearney.
