The Brute Squad is a local Varsity Lakes up-and-coming band with a unique style of music representing the eclectic genre of today’s music scene. The Brute Squad was formed two years ago when two of the band members met and formed a duo. Soon after two more members joined the duo and they changed their name to Psalmist and the Lyre.
However, the band recently changed their name back to its original name, which has also become the name of their new album, “We are The Brute Squad”. The Brute Squad consists of four members; Dave McMillan, Ian McPeres, Aiden McMillan and Josh McCormack. Band Member David McMillan said they decided to change their name back to The Brute Squad as they had a loyal following that they did not want to lose.
“We made this album a self titled album as after our band changed its name there was a lot of confusions with our followers, we wanted everyone to know that “We are The Brute Squad,” he said. Band Member Ian McPeres said they had turned their Varsity Lakes home into a recording studio. “Our garage is where we make most of our music,” he said.
“It’s our own space to be creative.” The Brute Squad have played at a number of venues on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane and Newcastle.
They also hope to go on tour around Australia and play to fans in Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne. To find out information on the Brute Squad check out their Myspace site at www.myspace.com/thebrutesquadmusic.
