The Lake Café and Bar went a bit German to celebrate Oktoberfest last Sunday. Diners were treated to live polka music, authentic German dishes and about 10 different beers. Staffs were dressed in traditional Lederhosen, the hallmark attire of Oktoberfest. The owner’s son and café waiter Luke Breuss said the Oktoberfest festivities were also a celebration of his father’s Austrian ancestry. “We’re having this today because my father is from Austria and he’s got a background so we thought we would have a function,” he said. Luke’s father Gerhard Breuss migrated to Australia in 1971 from Austria and has worked in the restaurant and hospitality business for over forty years. Gerhard and his sons took over the management of the Lake Café and Bar 18 months ago.
About 200 people attended Lake Café’s Oktoberfest celebrations last year. Another of the owner’s sons Mat Breuss said the even more popular this year. “It went very well, we were very happy with the turn out,” he said. Mat said they want to make next year’s event even bigger. “Maybe we can get some of the other local businesses to do it as well and get the whole area involved,” he said. Local resident Richard Springer said he enjoyed the event. “The atmosphere was attractive and the staffs were nice,” he said.
The Lake Cafe and Bar is located at 523 Varsity Parade in Market Square. To book a reservation or to find out about upcoming events, call 5578 9962.
