Varsity College junior students expressed mixed emotions over the Grade 12 graduation last week.
While some students were sad to see their older friends leave, others were ready to take on their new senior role.
A Year 10 student who was both sad and excited for future school life was Gabby Sutherland.
Gabby said that she was a little upset to see the Grade 12s leave as it now means her and her classmates have many years of hard work ahead of them.
“It was sad to see the tears in their eyes but it reminds you to enjoy school while you’re there,” Gabby said.
“School will be better for us now though because our work won’t be marked last as the older students always had first preference.”
Of the cheerful Year 10 students, one who was particularly happy to watch the older students graduate was Portia Knobloch.
Portia said that the atmosphere at the school has changed in a positive way for the younger students.
“The difference now is that we will be prioritized because we are older,” she said.
“The school is better now that they are gone because we can walk around without feeling intimidated.”
