Jett’s fitness club has opened in Varsity Lakes after months of setbacks.

Jett’s owner and manager Chris Barnes said the Gold Coast City Council took four months to approve building of the gym was frustrating.

“It really set us back, I think everything could be done more efficiently,” he said.

“There’s a stage for everything and each stage takes three or four weeks to get the stamp of approval.”

Mr Barnes said the club’s open day had been postponed several times because of setbacks.

“Last November, we had a lot of interest already,” he said.

“Our members have been very patient.”

Mr Barnes said it was a relief to open the club on Saturday.

“It’s a massive weight off my shoulders ... there was a period there when I didn’t think it was going to happen,” he said.

“But seeing the end result and the response so far, it was worth the wait.”

New Jett’s member Michael Williams said he was not bothered by the delay in the gym’s opening.

He said he joined Jett’s because it offered 24-hour access.

“I usually work night shift, so it’d be good to come here at 10 or 11pm and work out,” he said.

Mr Barnes said more than 350 people had joined the new club.
