Despite the recent global financial crisis a number of Varsity Lakes business owners said they were confident the local economy would soon bounce back.
Varsity Lakes Crema Espresso owner Vicky O’Brien said even though the sale of some items had decreased, other were still popular.
“Things maybe slowed down for a while, but people always want their coffee,” she said.
“The sales of things like sandwiches slowed down for a while, but not the coffee.”
Roberto’s Italian Restaurant and Bar owner Erin Pettygrove said there had been a 30 percent decrease in sales overall.
“From speaking with other restaurant owners, 30 [percent] seems to be the magic number at the moment,” she said.
However, Ms Pettygrove said she was positive the restaurants of Varsity Lakes would still attract diners.
“With Bond students being back from mid-semester break and the community getting busier I do see the situation improving,” she said.
Crema Espresso owner Vicky O’Brien said she had personally cut back on unnecessary spending.
“People are thinking more and more about their expenses,” she said.
Ms Pettygrove and Ms O’Brien both said they were positive the situation had begun to improve within Varsity Lakes. |
