Hair Salon Rejects Recession

By Julian Jantos

Varsity Lakes Hair Salon has joined the “Reject the Recession” campaign to help community members save.

Finance commentator and Sunrise co-host, David Koch founded the campaign to boost moral shortly after Kevin Rudd acknowledged Australia was feeling the effects of the recession.

The project was designed to connect small businesses with families trying to budget their finances during the recession.

Owner of Cocomouse Sandra Dobson said she became a member of “Reject the Recession” about three weeks ago, even though her business has not seriously felt the effects of the economic downfall.

“For us [the recession] hasn’t really affected us because people still need to get their hair cut,” said Dobson.

To become a member of the campaign a business needs to register on the channel 7 website.

Night Owl employee Stephanie Egerdon said she had not heard of the campaign and probably wouldn’t join.

“There’s more people that have it worse than I do,” said Miss Egerdon.

Miss Egerdon said she was just happy to have a job in the current economic climate.

“I’m more lucky than most,” said Miss Egerdon.

The “Reject the Recession” campaign ends on June 30 at the end of the financial year.
