Excited customers walked the red carpet through the newly developed Myer at Robina Town Centre last Wednesday night.
Beginning at 5pm, shoppers were greeted by a jazz band, shirtless men and crowds of more than 1000 people.
Myer employee Sonja Black said Myer management was delighted with the response.
“We have been planning tonight for a while, but we had no idea what to expect from the crowds,” she said.
“The excitement was there; it was really good.”
But the night threw in some surprises when the escalators unexpectedly stopped.
"It was a real inconvenience," said Myer customer Elise Frate.
Myer customer Reece Barker said the opening was a great night for the ladies, but not really for the men.
“The night was good, but I think it was meant for women who like to shop,” said Mr Barker.
“I was not expecting so many people. It was a bit too crowded.
For some weeks Myer employees have been signing up customers wishing to become Myer members to experience the opening.
“It’s just before Christmas, so it is the perfect time of year to open,” said Ms Black.
