Varsity Lakes locals fear for the image of their community as graffiti artists target Market Square.

The popular spot has been invaded by multiple graffiti works within the last month, but the culprit is unknown at this stage.

Gold Coast City Council officer Zdenko Krecek said these acts of graffiti were taking a toll on the community.

“The scenic amenity of the town is being diminished, causing property values to decrease,” he said.

“It is simply minimising the quality of the community and the humanity of the environment.”

Varsity Lakes resident Nicholas Milloy is unhappy with the amount of graffiti.
“Whoever is doing this needs to be stopped immediately,” he said.

“Graffiti is ruining the image of this suburb.”

Varsity College mother Ronda Clarke is worried that the graffiti artists may belong to the school.

“I just hope the culprits don’t belong to the school where my son spends a lot of his time,” she said.

At this stage, the graffiti has not been removed however, the council is aware and has plans to take action.
